Dr. Hasan Sohaib Murad: A teacher till the very end

By Hasnain Raza

“Teaching is a very noble profession that shapes the character, caliber, and future of an individual. If the people remember me as a good teacher, that will be the biggest honour for me. Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam formal president of India said this to inspire teachers to instill knowledge in students on the occasion of ‘Teachers Day’ on September 5, 2013, India. Dr. Hasan Sohaib Murad is one of those teachers, He teaches not only students but also his peers, colleagues, and acquaintances. Because it’s not just your students who are there to learn, it’s all about teaching the society.

Dr. Hassan Sohaib Murad was an institution-builder and a team leader who always favored a strong and self-reliant Pakistan.

Dr.Hasan Sohaib Murad was a man of the world.  A man whose personality had so many dimensions. A good father, a good friend, a good family man, a good humanitarian, Philanthropist but last not least a world leading teacher. He is a self-made man from a very humble family background.

Dr. Hasan Sohaib Murad was the founding President of ILM Trust and the Rector/Chairman of the University of Management and Technology (UMT). He received his Bachelor degree in Civil Engineering from NED University of Engineering and Technology, Karachi and an MBA from Washington State University, USA. He earned his Doctorate in Management from the University of Wales, United Kingdom. He was also Chairperson of a nationwide network of colleges and schools consisting of about 200 institutions. The leading brands of ILM Colleges and the Knowledge Schools are serving the middle class by providing them high quality education. He was also founding Chairman of the Institute of Knowledge and Leadership (IKL), Dubai which offers executive development programs in MENASA region.

Dr. Hasan Sohaib Murad inspired lot of people in his life in which one of them is me.  I have an honour to meet him briefly, in such a brief time He inspired me a lot, a man with a lot of caliber is so much humble and down to earth and how much he is keen to do work for the education of young especially needy students. He encourages students to ask questions in the class rooms not just learn. He believed that Questions lead to: inventions, discoveries, changes in the status quo and everything in between. Help your students to not accept everything they hear, or see, as fact.

Dr. Hasan Sohaib Murad once in his interview encourages students to study in their home town instead of going other countries and spend too much money, student can learn more in the country with less expense. He believed that the knowledge which delivered in Pakistani universities is also high standards. He emphases on local education among the students. He said we should give confidence to our students, that they are the pillar of our nation and they need to do work for the betterment of their country.

Dr. Hassan Sohaib Murad Journey of 27 years in education is ended in a tragic car accident. He was on his way back from Khunjerab Pass with his son Ibrahim Hasan Murad when the accident took place. The crash left Dr Hasan critically injured and he pass away as a result of his injuries shortly after on the evening of 10th September 2018, He was 59.

His death left a void in the world of education, which no one will ever fill. This is a fact; some people have no substitutes, no alternatives or no replacement.
