Employment is the main focus for any country/society/college/ university particularly for women universities in southern Punjab because only education or training is not sufficient for students. The system has to provide platform to the students to explore and implement their skills in professional field. The Vice Chancellor of GSCWU Prof. Dr. Talat Afza believes that the responsibility of the institution is not only to impart education but to take additional responsibility to support them in making a right start of their career.

In this respect Career Counseling Department was directed to organize “Job Fair – 2018” on 26th April. The Job Fair was for all the departments. More than 2500 students got registered online and around 1000 students were registered through on spot registration facility. 22 industries participated in Job Fair – 2018. On the day of job fair, registration of the students started early in the morning, Registration desks were according to the field. A list of companies and its requirement was displayed near registration desk. So that students can choose easily.

Event was inaugurated by Brig. Shahid Mahmood (Project Director DHA) at 10:00 am. He began by talking about the world that students grew up in. The world that they came into and the world of today are remarkably different. He appreciated the unique opportunity available to form partnership between potential employers and employees. As students, they need to make themselves attractive employee whereas companies have to make equal effort to attract the best students.

In the end he appreciated the efforts of the university administration and Career Counseling Center of GSCWU. Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Saeed Anwar- Treasurer GSCWU, said that the career fair should be organized every year to create jobs and networking opportunities for graduates/alumni. He appreciated the efforts of CCC team for organizing such a mega event and encouraged the participants to make full use of it. Mr.M. Ali Wallana- Director, P & D also stated that GSCWU has become the number one choice for students due to its amazing corporate and research culture. GSCWU, through this annual career fair, would create employment opportunities for the students giving them exposure to deal with the organizations. He proudly declared,

We are producing quality leaders keeping market demands in view so that they lead in their respective fields.

Some of the students said that the career fair was an exciting opportunity to interact with the companies of their choice. They said that the event has helped in buffing up skills that are the requirement for securing jobs in a competitive environment. Ms. Nosheen Malik Manager Career counseling Center said that the key objective of the fair was to create ample opportunities for GSCWU graduates so that they become familiar with different companies and organizations in District Bahawalpur which will help them to find jobs easily.

There were 22 stalls at the fair where significant number of CVs was collected and jobs were offered to GSCWU graduates. All stake holders, especially the business and enterprises play an indispensable role by providing training and internship opportunities. Prof. Naseem Khalid- Registrar GSCWU said that this annual event, which was held for the 1st time, has no doubt established itself as a premier event in equipping students and the job seekers with comprehensive and latest information on further studies, training and career openings under one roof.

Our challenge and opportunity is to build up the best trained workforce that can face intense competition. For this, it is imperative to do utmost to prepare younger generation. In the closing ceremony, Mr. Ijaz Nazim- President Chamber of Commerce, admired Worthy Vice Chancellor Prof Dr. Talat Afza and Manager Career Counseling Ms Nosheen Malik for organizing successful job fair. He said,

We should prepare our young girls to meet the challenges and opportunities in a knowledge based economy, we cannot work alone in grooming the talents for the future of Pakistan. So we must work together as a team to achieve this target.

He offered his services in this regard specially organizing and providing entrepreneurial opportunities for students of GSCWU. In the end shields were distributed among the companies’ representatives.
