KASHMIR SIEGE DAY; INDIAN VS WORLD MEDIA

Kashmir siege day observed on Aug 5 after one whole year

Indian Media gave a point of view totally opposite to the media of whole world.

By Muhammad Hamza Khan

Kashmir siege day was observed at completing the one whole year of Kashmiri people under the cruel act of Indian government. On this occasion, various events, rallies, conferences, and meetings were observed all over the World especially in Pakistan.

Following are some summaries how the press around the world covered this story:

Express Tribune:

Today marks a year since the Modi government launched demographic apartheid in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu & Kashmir (IIOJK), dividing the region into three parts. Thus, the day is being observed as the Kashmir Siege Day (Youm-e-Istehsal) to denounce Indian prime minister’s brazen attempts at usurping the region.

As the nation observes Kashmir Siege Day (Youm-e-Istehsal) today to denounce Narendra Modi’s brazen attempt to usurp the illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, the PTI government unveiled a new political map of Pakistan spurning Delhi’s territorial claims on IIOJK.

Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi also invited leaders of all main opposition parties at the Foreign Office to take them into confidence on the steps being taken by the government on IIOJK.

Aljazeera:

Authorities have imposed a curfew in Indian-administered Kashmir, a day ahead of the first anniversary of India’s controversial decision to revoke the disputed region’s semi-autonomy.

Officials announced a two-day “full curfew” on Monday citing intelligence reports of looming protests in the Muslim-majority region of seven million people, where locals have called for the anniversary to be marked as a “black day”.

Police vehicles patrolled the main city of Srinagar after dark on Monday and again on Tuesday morning, with officers using megaphones to order residents to remain indoors.

TRT World:

A curfew has been imposed across Indian-administered Kashmir just two days before the first anniversary of New Delhi’s abolition of the restive region’s semi-autonomy.

“These restrictions shall come into force with immediate effect and shall remain in force on 4th and 5th August,” stated the government order issued late on Monday for the main city of Srinagar.

“Full curfew will be enforced in all Kashmir districts,” a senior police officer, who asked to remain anonymous, told AFP.

A “full curfew” means people can only move around with an official pass, usually reserved for essential services like police and medical professionals.

The Himalayan region is already subject to restrictions to reduce the spread of the novel coronavirus amid a jump in infections, with most economic activities limited and public movement curtailed.

Arab news:

Indian soldiers patrolled streets and kept watch from the rooftops in Kashmir’s main city of Srinagar on the eve of the first anniversary of the Muslim majority region’s loss of autonomy.
Late on Monday, authorities imposed a curfew in Srinagar until Wednesday due to intelligence about potential violent protests, according to a government order.
On Aug. 5, 2019, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government took away Jammu & Kashmir state’s special privileges, provoking anger in the region and in neighboring Pakistan.
It also took away Jammu & Kashmir’s status as a state by creating two federally controlled territories, splitting off the thinly populated, Buddhist-dominated region of Ladakh.
Jammu & Kashmir had been the only Muslim-majority state in mainly Hindu India.

The Diplomat:

This is one of the darkest times to be a Kashmiri. We are being reminded of this fact every minute since the August 5 abrogation of Article 370 of India’s Constitution, which had granted Jammu and Kashmir partial autonomy as an Indian state. We encounter it in our minds, in the anxious look on the faces of fellow Kashmiris, in the listless markets that have only recently reopened after three and a half months of shutdown, and in the street-side huddles that invariably veer into discussions about an uncertain future and the specter of looming demographic change. We feel it every time we pick up our phones, knowing they won’t connect to the internet – even more than five months after the communication blackout began. Or for that matter when our prepaid phone SIMs can’t make a call.

BBC news:

Curfew has been imposed in Indian-administered Kashmir in anticipation of protests ahead of 5 August – the day the government stripped the region of its special status.

Officials say the curfew is meant to prevent violence by groups planning to observe 5 August as “black day“.

They said mass gatherings were also not allowed because of Covid-19.

The state was split into two federally-administered regions last year and its semi-autonomous status was revoked.

Reports say there is tension in the region ahead of the anniversary and more troops have been deployed.

The decision to revoke article 370 – the part of the constitution that guaranteed Kashmir special status – was met with anger and betrayal in the region although it was widely welcomed in the rest of the country. Thousands were detained amid a curfew and a communications blackout was ordered.

The Star:

Authorities enforced security restrictions in many parts of Indian-controlled Kashmir on Wednesday, a year after New Delhi revoked the disputed region’s semi-autonomy in a decision that set off anger and economic ruin amid a harsh security clampdown.

Officials lifted a curfew in the restive region’s main city of Srinagar late Tuesday, but said restrictions on public movement, transport and commercial activities would continue because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Government forces placed steel barricades and razor wire across many roads, bridges and intersections. Shops and businesses remained shut and police and soldiers stopped residents at checkpoints, only letting an occasional vehicle or pedestrian pass.

Several residents said government forces stopped them at checkpoints, saying the curfew was still in place.

National post:

India and Pakistan have fought two of their three wars over Kashmir, and the disputed Himalayan region was again the focus of a flare-up between the two nuclear powers last year.

Kashmir Times:

A curfew was imposed across Kashmir on Tuesday as authorities feared protests and violence ahead the first anniversary of the withdrawal of Jammu and Kashmir’s special status on August 5, 2019.
The decision was taken at a core group meeting of security officials, civil administration, and intelligence agencies, which was chaired by General Officer Commanding 15 Corps B S Raju and Director General J&K Police Dilbag Singh.
Srinagar and other districts of Valley have imposed strict restrictions till end of day on August 5. However, amid the Covid-19 pandemic, medical emergencies and movement of staff with valid cards and passes issued by the administration have been exempted from the restrictions.
The Srinagar district magistrate in an order said they have received inputs about separatists and Pakistan-sponsored groups planning to observe August 5 as “Black Day”.

Now, we will see how Indian press covered this story:

Hindustan Times:

Fearing violent protests from separatists on the first anniversary of the revocation of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir on August 5, the Srinagar administration on Monday evening imposed curfew till Wednesday with immediate effect.
Additionally, the Covid-19 related restrictions, which were imposed from July 31 till August 5, have been extended till August 8. August 5 will mark a year of abrogation of Article 370 and Article 35A, ending the special status of Jammu and Kashmir. Article 370 and Article 35A, for close to seven decades, have defined the state’s relationship with the Union, were effectively rendered null and void on August 5.
According to the officials, separatists and Pakistan sponsored groups are planning to observe August 5 as black day, raising apprehensions of violence.

“ There are specific inputs about violent protests endangering public life and property,” an order issued by district magistrate Srinagar Shahid Chaudhary quoting a report of SSP Srinagar stated.

He said such gatherings would also be detrimental to the efforts of containing Covid-19.

“The report has further made a case that to prevent such violence and loss of life and property, it is essential to impose curfew in the district,” the DM said, ordering complete restrictions on public movement and curfew in the district.

Conclusion:

The use of words and the way to describe the situation in Kashmir by Indian press clearly describes how harsh feelings and hatred they have towards Muslims, that they are not even supporting the Muslims who are under strict curfew for last one year. They don’t care how would Muslims be living under such cruelty and brutality. They are still just blaming Pakistan, what they have been doing since 1947.
