Names finalized for VCs in four women varsities

LAHORE: (Sunday 05-04-2019) The Punjab government has finalized names of eminent professors for appointment as vice chancellors in four women universities of province. The Higher Education Department is expected to issue formal notification in this regard, sources told The Educationist on Sunday.

Two senior female professors of Punjab University are also included in the list of successful candidates. PU Institute of Administrative Sciences Director Prof. Dr. Nasira Jabeen’s name is being finalized for Women University Sialkot, PU External Linkages Director Dr Kanwal Amin for Home Economics University, Lahore, former VC LCWU Dr. Uzma Qureshi for Women University Multan and Dr. Bushra Mirza for Govt. College Women University Faisalabad.  

Women University Sialkot’s expected VC, Prof. Dr. Nasira Jabeen is currently serving as Dean Faculty of Economics and Management Sciences and Director of the Institute of Administrative Sciences at the University of the Punjab, Lahore. She has a Post Doctorate from the University of Texas, Austin (USA) and PhD from the University of Stirling, UK. She is also the former acting Vice Chancellor of University of the Punjab, Lahore, Pakistan. 

Dr. Nasira Jabeen served as a Professor to the Prince Claus Chair at University of Utrecht, Netherlands for the year 2006-07. She has received Central Overseas Training Scholarship, Post-doctoral fellowship and the Nishan-e-Haider scholarship (Presidential Award) based on her excellent academic performance. She has also served as President of Association of Management Development Institutions of Pakistan (AMDIP) and organized faculty development programs to strengthen the linkage among public and corporate sector universities

Dr. Jabeen has published her work with national and international journals and has representation at various esteemed bodies and committees including Association of Commonwealth Universities, University of Utrecht, Doctoral Committee, and member Syndicate, governance, selection boards and Quality Assurance Agency (QAA), HEC. She has also worked with international organizations such as UNICEF, Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA), Asian Development Bank (ADB), the World Bank, Governance Institutions Network International (GINI), British Council and Ministry of Education as Human Resource Development (HRD) Consultant.

She has also contributed towards teaching at the Civil Services Academy, National Management College, Police Academy and other management institutions and HEC. Her research work has been published in international and national journals.

Prof. Dr. Kanwal Ameen is a dynamic, innovative, committed person who is known nationally and internationally in the area of Library and Information Science. She has also been the chairperson of Doctoral Program Comitie at University of the Punjab, Lahore.  Now she is director, directorate of external linkages, University of the Punjab.

 She has got a number of international and national awards/scholarships. She has produced more than 70 publications for international refereed journals. She was the Chief-Editor of Pakistan Journal of Library and Information Science from 2005-2009.

Dr. Kanwal Ameen got her PhD. in Library and Information Sciences from University of the Punjab, Lahore in 2005. She did her master in Library Science from University of the Punjab, Lahore in 1986. She also won HEC best teacher award in 2010.

Dr. Kanwal Ameen is the chief editor for the Pakistan Journal of Information Management and Libraries. She is also an award-winning teacher, author, researcher, and lecturer in the field of library and information science as well as a pre-doc (2000–2001) and post-doc (2009–2010) international fulbright scholar.

Expected VC Women University Multan Dr. Uzma Qureshi is former VC Lahore College for Women University. She has over 20 years experience of teaching and research in higher education. Other professional interests include curriculum development and leadership training.Her PhD is in education management and planning from Birmingham University, UK. She did her post-doctorate from Cambridge University on the topic of higher education and Gender equity as a focus of her research. Expected VC of Women University Faisalabad Dr. Bushra Mirza did her PhD from University of Cambridge UK and post doc from University of North Carolina USA in the field of Plant Molecular Biology. She has been awarded Best Young Research Scholar Award by Higher education commission in 2009 and a Gold Medal by Pakistan Academy of Sciences in 2008. She was awarded Tamgha-i-Imtiaz in recognition of her contribution in the field of science in 2017.
