A large number of events in last a few months reelects pro-activeness
LAHORE: Punjab University College of Earth and Environmental Sciences (CEES) has organized a number of events during last few months – taking a pro-active stance on key issues faced to the Pakistani society in an attempt to contribute its part. The detail of some of the event is as following:
World Plantation Day: Over 200 trees were planted in the college by the faculty and students. The tree plantation campaign was jointly launched by CEES, Punjab Forest Department and Indus Consortium at the college’s lawns.
MoU with Bulleh Shah Packaging: A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between PU CEES and Bulleh Shah Packaging Pakistan is aimed at providing research-based solutions to the problems of biomass feedstock supply chain of BSP.
CEES MoU with PCRET: An other (MOU) was signed with Pakistan Coun
cil of Renewable Energy Technologies (PCRET) Ministry of Science & Technologyto promote renewable energy technologies in Pakistan.
Literary and Debating Society: The society was constituted with the aim to promote and polish students’ spoken skills and to motive them to take interest in literature. The society organized debates contest.
APS Peshawar: A debate competition was organized on the black day of APS Peshawar
incident (16 December). A message was delivered by the Principal: “We are not afraid of terrorism, we will continue our educational activities without any fear”.
Grow Festival: The mega event “Grow Festival” was organized at the college with the focus to highlight the issue of reduction in food stuff due to climate change. A large number of thematic stalls were also established on this occasion.
Quaid Day: The day was celebrated to highlight the life-long efforts of Quaid-i-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah.
Christmas Day: To show solidarity with the Christian community of the country, university and the college, a Christmas celebration was arranged to advocate the case of peac
e and humanity without any religious discrimination.
Sports Gala: Although security threats was at peak, Prof. Dr. Sajid Rashid and his administration arranged a Sports Gala. Punjab Education Minister Rana Mashhood Ahmed Khan was the chief guest in the concluding ceremony.
World Water Day: On March 22 CEES celebrated the World Water Day while spreading awareness on water sustainability and future scenario for the country.
Educational Lectures / Workshops: The college organized workshops and lectures to promote new ideas on environment, hydrology and tourism. A lecture on ‘Conta
mination Sites’ was delivered by a Canadian Professor.
Faculty and student said, “After taking charge as CEES Principal in August 2015, Dr. Sajid is striving hard to promote college and improve its functioning. He is always eager to develop research facilities at college, e.g. Biogas plant, Geographical Information System Laboratory and Weather Research Station, which shows his continuous interest in research.”
