Lahore: (March 7, 2019): Department of Archaeology conducted a lecture on “Understanding Hindu God Shiva and its Parivar (Family)” in Punjab University here on Thursday. The speaker of this lecture was Haji Abdul Aziz Farooq Former Director, Department of Archaeology and Museum, Government of Pakistan- Former faculty member Department of Archaeology, University of the Punjab.
He elaborated different objects worn by Shiva and also of other associated gods.
The patron in chief was Dr. Iqbal Chawla Dean Faculty of Arts and Humanities Chairman, Department of History, University of Punjab. Also present was Prof. Dr. Ashok Kumar Dar. The speaker described about the family of Shiva and briefed about its origin and its background. Dr. Iqbal Chawla said,
The main purpose of this lecture series is to spread awareness enough so that you may be able to recognize the various gods and goddesses in the world outside.
He also added,
There is always a background in mythology for god of every religion. We need to study and know about them in order to find out the answers to the questions.
In the end, there was a question/answer session with the speakers in which majority of the audience participated.
