LAHORE: (Sunday, February 26, 2017 ) Federation of All Pakistan Universities Academic Staff Association (FAPUASA) has condemned the removal of over 40 senior level contract professors from Punjab University.
In a joint statement FAPUASA Central President Dr. Hamayoun Khan, Centeral Secretary Dr. Mahboob Hussain and Punjab Chapter President Suhail Aftab have said these professors were really big names in their disciplines. “They are our national asset and such professors are highly regarded and respected all around the world, and their potential should be fully exploited in the national interest.”
The way these eminent professors have been removed all in a sudden without any performance audit or a prior notice is so humiliating and insulting. The FAPUASA leaders have expressed the hope that Punjab University vice chancellor and registrar would review their decision and tape the potential of these scholars.

They have appealed Prime Minister of Pakistan, chief minister Punjab and chairman HEC Pakistan to intervene and take notice of this national issue.
It is noteworthy that over 41 retired professors working on contract basis at the Punjab University, have been terminated from service with immediate

effect in two separate notifications. They university administration instead of serving any prior notice or performance audit, mentioned in the removal notice that they will be given one month salary in lieu of notice.
According to details, those who had been relieved by the PU include: Khawaja Muhammad Zakria, Dr Syed Muhammad Akram, Dr Shoukat Mehmood, Dr Muhammad Nawaz Chaudhry, Prof Dr AR Jafri, Dr Nasreen Muzaffar, Dr Shafqat Nawaz, Badar us Zaman, Dr Saeed Akhtar, Dr Riaz Ahmad, Prof Naeem Mir, Dr Sajid Ali, Muhammad Awais, Dr Jamil Anwar, Muhammad Jamil Khan, Dr Jehangir Tamimi, Allah Ditta, Dr Ejaz Mujtaba Ghouri, Dr Arshad Hussain Quraishi, Akhtar Hussain, Dr Shoukat Ali, Dr Farrukh Zia Khan, Riaz Ahmad Mian, Syed Zulfiqar Ahmad Shah, Dr Fouzia Naheed Khwaja, Syed Fida Hussain Bokhari, Syed Farooq Hasnat, Sabiha Zulqarnain, Dr Aqdas Ali Kazmi, Dr Naseem Akhtar Saad, Dr Ajmal Niazi, Dr Ziaullah Chaudhry, Dr Mehmood Hussain, Dr Muhammad Nawaz Chaudhry, Dr Rafiuddin Hashmi, Dr Muhammad Akram and Dr Abdul Waheed.
Sources said over 100 PhD and even more number of MPhil Students would be affected due to this decision. Some of these teachers also won huge financial grants for PU. Professors of School of Biological Sciences were an example in this regards.
When contacted, PU spokesperson Khurram Shahzad said that the decision was taken to ease the financial burden of the university. “The decision w
as taken in light of the judgment by the Supreme Court of Pakistan that bars hiring retired officials. The retired contract faculty members, who were working on contract basis after their retirement, were not producing any research work.” He added the university would focus on giving new people space to work at the varsity. He, however, clarified that these faculty members could work as visiting faculty members and could also supervise research work at the varsity.
