Nation mourns on the loss of famous writer, poet and journalist Munnu bhai

Pakistan’s renowned columnist and poet Munir Ahmed Qureshi, commonly known as Munnu Bhai, passed away on January 19 2018, at the age of 84. His funeral prayer was performed at Rewaz Garden after Asr prayer today on Friday. Munnu bhai was suffering from kidney and cardiac problems and was going through a daily treatment of dialysis.

Munnu Bhai was born in Wazirabad on February 6, 1933. He was affiliated with journalism for more than 25 years. He is known for his dramas for Pakistan Television, Sona Chandi, Aashiyana, Dasht, Gumshuda, Khubsoorat are famous among many others which will always be remembered by his fans.His column titled Greban was popular among people as it had a humanistic perspective.

In 2014, he donated his entire literary collection to Government College University (GCU) as a token of appreciation for its contribution to the promotion of drama and literature.

He was given Pride of Performance award by the state of Pakistan in 2007. People are grieving over the death of Munnu Bhai.

Bilawal Bhutto expressed his emotions on his death, he tweeted:

“So sad to hear Munnu Bhai has passed away. Pakistan lost another progressive voice of integrity & sanity,”

 

A famous Punjabi poet Baba Najmi expressed his condolences by saying:

Munnu bhai’s work is an asset for the entire nation. He will always be remembered for his wonderful services to the country.”

Vice Chancellor of the University of Punjab Prof Dr Zakaria Zakir has expressed his sorrow and grief over sad demise of internationally acclaimed writer and well known journalist. He said that the country had been deprived of a great writer who received many international awards. He added that Munnu Bhai was respected among all schools of thought because of his creative writings. He prayed that the departed soul of Munnu bhai may rest in eternal peace and may Allah Almighty grant courage to the members of his bereaved family to bear this irreparable loss.

Indeed it will not be wrong to say that he devoted his life for journalism and literature. His services in the field of literature and journalism will always be remembered.
