PU ICS active for mass education

LAHORE: Punjab University Institute of Communication Studies (PU ICS) is effectively contributing to the mass education of the society by organising awareness walks, seminars, workshops, special lectures and awareness stalls.
Ranging from the traffic awareness walk, to ills of smoking, breast cancer, media ethics, media code of ethics, traffic awareness, women empowerment, and Kashmir issue – a large number of events were organised by ICS in the recent past.
Under the patronage of Dean Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences Dr Zakria Zakar, ICS in-charge director Dr Noshina Saleem and coordinators, the students as part of their academic programs’ practical work organised various lively events. These events practically trained students and helped built their confidence before they enter their professional fields where competition is very tough.  There is a very long list of such events with not ending.
Awareness Walk on Benefits of Walking: on January 29, 2015 the institute organised an awareness walk on “The Benefits of Walking” from ICS to Department of English. The walk was led by in-charge director Dr Noshina Saleem while organisers included Aadarsh Muzafar, Arhama Zaheer, Zunera Khalid and Maryam Qureshi. A large number of students participated in the walk.Speaking at the occasion, Dr Noshina said that walking was a good habit and it should be encouraged. She appreciated the efforts of the students.  Students also prepared charts and placards inscribed with slogans that stressed on the health benefits of walking and why it was important.
Blood Donation: On February 1an awareness walk and a seminar on‘Significance of Blood Donation for Society’were organizedby the Institute of Communication Studies (ICS) in collaboration with Sundas Foundation. The seminar was held at theauditorium of Institute of Social and Cultural Sciences Punjab University. Sundus Foundation Director Major (r) Tariq Maqbool, ICS Lecturer Ms Mehreen Mansoori, Mahmood Shafi and others addressed the students of Institute of Communication Studies and Sociology Department.

Sundus Foundation Director Major (r) Tariq Maqbool emphasized that the young generation should actively participate for the noble cause of blood donation while appreciating PU students, who he said, always took a lead in blood donation.
ICS Lecturer Mehreen Mansoori advised students to take best care of their health and donate blood to poor and needy patients. She said blood donors were saving hundreds of thousand lives in the world on daily basis and this was one of the best practices human being were rendering in service of humanity.Earlier, an awareness walk held from ICS to sociology department to spread awareness on the cause of blood donation. The walk was led by Dr Bushra Hameed, ICS Adviser Student Affairs Shabbir Sarwar, Fahad Mehmood and dozens of students participated in the walk. They participants were carrying banners and placard inscribed with various slogans.
APS protest rally: On December 17, 2014 a protest rally against the brutal attack on Army Public School Peshawar, which killed more than 140 people including 134 children, was organised. Dr Noshina Saleem led the rally from ICS to the Institute of Education and Research. Lecturer Sana Naveed Khan, Lecturer Shazia Toor, PU FM Manager Muhammad Irshad and a large number of students participated in the rally.

World Television Day: was celebrated on November 21, 2014 to stress upon the importance of electronic media, especially television. During the event they students were informed that on 21 and 22 November 1996 the United Nations held the first World Television Forum and discussed the growing significance of television in changing world and to consider how they might enhance their mutual cooperation. That is why the General Assembly decided to proclaim 21 November as World Television Day.
Awareness walk against Acid Attacks on Women: was organised on November 19, 2014 by ICS students outside the institute. They participants demanded effective laws and their implementation to curb acid attacks on women. German Students: On Oct 21, a 20-member delegation of German students from Erfurt University visited ICS visited PU FM 104.6, Audio Video Lab, Computer Lab and the Library. During the tour, the visitors were shown an introductory documentary about ICS and its various programmes.
