WASHINGTON: Michelle Obama and Maryam Nawaz have joined hands to empower Pakistani women by promoting education through the project “Let Girls Learn (LGL Pakistan) to change lives of 200,000 Pakistani girls.

The first lady of the United States also announced an initial funding of US$70 million for LGL Pakistan programme. Michelle’s office also announced that the Pakistani government has agreed to double spending for education, from 2 percent to 4 percent of GDP by 2018. Both the ladies knowing the importance of education, laid path of Pakistani women empowerment and strength with it. The official meeting between both the ladies was held at the White House. And at end of it, Michelle Obama and Maryam announced plan for media.
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif visited Washington on a 4-day official visit.
Maryam Nawaz along with her daughters also accompanied her father Nawaz Sharif as she was invited by the US first lady Michelle Obama to talk on for betterment of Pakistani woman. Pakistan will enroll more girls in school and provide more female teachers in the schools and colleges. The announcement came just before the meeting of President Barack Obama with Sharif. The US president and first lady launched the LGL initiative this year to help more than 60 million girls worldwide who don’t attend school and have asked world leaders to join the effort.
Pakistan joined South Korea, the United Kingdom and Japan in announcing steps to further girls’ education under LGL initiative.
