Baidari, a mime performance based on the timeless poetry of Allama Iqbal, is one of the iconic pieces presented at the Defence Day celebrations at the Old Campus, University of the Punjab. The mime shows the pre-partition time; however, it also represents the current scenario, where we, as a Nation, need to understand the importance of freedom. It is also a tribute to all the positive forces and intellectualism that can contribute to the growth and progress of the Country. Baidari was a presentation by Natak, the performing arts society of students at CAD, PU under the supervision of Dr Ahmad Bilal. The poetry of Allama Iqbal,
and the magnificent voice of Shahnawaz Zaidi spelled bound the audience. The synchronised moves of the students were not less than professionals. It is an aesthetically pleasing, dynamic and sparkling demonstration of performing arts.
Natak society was formed in 1994 by Shahnawaz Zaidi, former Principal of College of Art and Design, and represented the University at national and international level, and bagged various awards of theatre, film and television.
