As we move towards a more urbanized world, lighting has become a critical element in ensuring public safety, especially on roads. Streetlights play an important role in enhancing visibility and reducing accidents on roads. However, the excessive use of road or street light has been a topic of concern for many years. In this feature, we will explore the effects of excessive usage of light poles on roads and how it can be addressed. The overuse of light is a growing problem in many cities around the world. The main reason for this trend is the desire to provide better illumination for motorists and pedestrians. However, the excessive use of light can create a range of problems. One of the major issue is light pollution. Light pollution occurs when there is too much artificial light in an area, which affects the natural darkness of the night sky. This can be particularly problematic in urban areas, where light pollution can cause disruption to ecosystems, affecting wildlife and their habitat. Light pollution can also have a negative impact on human health, particularly on sleep patterns, which can lead to various health problems, including cardiovascular disease and obesity.
Another issue with excessive usage of light poles on roads is the cost. Installing and maintaining light poles on roads can be expensive for municipalities, particularly if there is an overabundance of them. The cost of electricity, maintenance, and replacement can add up quickly and put a significant strain on a city’s budget.
Additionally, there is a negative impact on the aesthetics of an area. Too many poles can clutter the landscape and detract from the natural beauty of the surroundings. This can be particularly problematic in historic areas, where excessive lighting can detract from the authenticity and charm of the environment.
Despite these challenges, there are ways to address the overuse of light poles on roads. One solution is to use more efficient lighting technology, such as LED lights. LED lights are more energy-efficient than traditional lights, and they can last longer, which reduces maintenance costs. This technology also offers better control over the direction and intensity of the light, which can be helpful in reducing light pollution. Another solution is to use smart lighting systems that use sensors to detect the presence of vehicles and pedestrians. These systems can adjust the intensity of the light in real-time based on the traffic flow, reducing the need for excessive lighting during periods of low traffic. Smart lighting systems can also help reduce energy consumption, which can be beneficial for cities looking to reduce their carbon footprint.
Finally, cities can also implement a lighting plan that balances safety and aesthetics. This plan can include guidelines for the placement of light poles, the intensity of lighting, and the type of lighting used. A well-designed lighting plan can enhance safety while preserving the natural beauty of the area and reducing light pollution.
With less amount of dams in Pakistan and due to the flood of 2022 people of Pakistan have suffered the most and demanding governments to construct more dam to store water and generate electricity So where we have such big problem we must not waste our electricity and save it at all cost.
Electric crises of Pakistan.
As we all know that Pakistan is facing huge electric crises and there is less electricity and increase In black out and load shedding and then we see that on day time there are lights still running and no one is there to turn that off and some times during rain because of salt water most of the lights stops working and that remain the same for months and no one fix them which causes accidents at night time.
Working staff also do not take their job seriously and are not punctual, there are many witness who have seen these workers just chilling and not performing their tasks on time and sometimes they also make fun of it that it is good that government have to pay or its on government and most of the times it is also seen that they purposely destroy buttons and wire just so that they would not have to work
Electric cars!!
In 21st century where world is moving towards electric car and Pakistan is still facing electric problems so in this case people of Pakistan should kiss the electric cars good by. In conclusion, the excessive use of light poles on roads is a growing problem in many cities around the world. It can lead to light pollution, high costs, and detract from the aesthetics of an area. However, there are solutions to address this problem, such as using more efficient lighting technology, implementing smart lighting systems, and developing a well-designed lighting plan. By addressing the overuse of light poles on roads, cities can enhance safety, reduce costs, and preserve the natural beauty of their surroundings.
