Interview of PU Chandigarh Director Sports

CHANDIGARH: Panjab University Chandigarh Sports Director Dr. Parminder Singh Auhlwalia said that long-term planning of sports coaches, quality of training and patience of parents and students made national players.
While talking to The Educationist in an exclusive interview in Chandigarh, he said sportsmen should concentrate on training not on results. “The selection and role of coaches and parents is important in the life of players, especially who are playing at university level,”’he remarked.
Dr. Parminder Singh said his father was a schoolteacher and his subject was physical education. Replying to a question about his academic qualifications, Mr. Singh said, he has done MA, MPhil and PhD in physical education. He said before joining PU Chandigarh he was head of department of Physical Education at Arya Collage Ludhiana.
To another query about the role of politics in sports, he said sports and politics were two different things and both should be kept separate. “When politics is involve there is no game but politics. We believe in competition in sports.” While replying to a question about international delegation of sports at university level he said they have hosted many international sports delegation in PU like Korea, Poland and Russia. He said sports could be improved if high officials show interest and make flexible policies.

He said, ‘’I believe that colleges and universities give platform to the sportsmen

to polish and groom them in the field of education and sports. “They can improve and build their personality and I can say sports and education are equally important in students life’’.
The PU Chandigarh director sports said they must concentrate on grass root level for producing excellent players in academic institutions. “If you would concentrate on training, results would be automatically improved ‘’he remarked’’.
Replying to a question he said they have won Maulana Abdul Kalam Azad (MAKA) trophy 13 times.
Dr. Parminder Singh said he had a wish to engage Punjab University Lahore with Panjab University Chandigarh in sports. Both the teams should play matches to promote

sports further. “We are ready for sports interaction between both countries’ universities.
To a query he said sports budget was very important to improve games and promote extracurricular activities in universities.
