LAHORE: Punjab University’s newly appointed provisional vice chancellor Prof Dr. Zaffar Moeen Nasir is set to take major administrative changes after his meetings with faculty members belonging to various political groups during last two weeks.
According to sources privy to the developments, the posts of two additional registrars and one additional controller examinations will be kept vacant after ousting Dr. Kamran Abid and Malik Zaheer Ahmed from these posts. A ‘powerful dean’ will be appointed as a powerful registrar. Dean of Science Dr. Naeem Khan is most likely to be appointed on the said post, as Dr. Moeen is terming Dr. Naeem as the most impressive dean.
The vice chancellor has planned to bring in more funds from the HEC as he reportedly enjoys ‘cordial relationship’ with HEC chairman Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed. During a recent meeting at HEC Secretariat both the ‘friends’ exchanged laughters and had a very frank and informal discussions on various issues.
Dr Moeen has announced to focus on research and university’s international rankings, while making a claim that he will bring PU in the top 500 varsities of the world. He is also saying that he has left Rs 1.3 million job for Rs 0.3 million in PU.

He has also put a ban on the tea and biscuits for the visiting teachers and administrative staff, which reflects American culture and a time saving technique. Really a good start up!
Recently when he was suggested to call for a meeting of departmental heads to convey his policy to the administrative
heads of all departments, he made it clear that Faculty Deans should do their job diligently and it was their responsibility to deal with all departmental heads working under them and not the responsibility of the office of the vice chancellor.
New Vice Chancellor has had a meeting with the office-bearers of Islami Jammiat Tulaba (IJT), who later discussed at various forums that they have conveyed the new vice chancellor that if he wanted research and academic growth of the university he must take them on board and work in collaboration with them to repair and promote PU image. JI teachers also had meetings with the VC and they are trying to regain their space in the administrative affairs.
He has planned to give promotions to the administrative staff and teachers to get more support from within the university.
Although initially Academic Staff Association office bearers had a meeting with the new vice chancellor and they praise

d him in a press statement for being ‘education friendly’ , however, ASA is soon expected to take a firm stance against some of the policies of Dr. Moeen, especially his flexibility for IJT and JI teachers, as per the gossip in the campus. Many teachers who supported the big change in PU from JI controlled university to a liberal and progressive university, they are having a bad feeling and their feelings are echoing to the Campus Gossip.
According to the sources, the new vice chancellor Dr Zaffar Moeen after coming to the university went to the VC House along with his wife and daughter and they had a ‘good meeting’ with Dr. Mujahid Kamran and Dr. Shazia Qureshi there. Dr. Mujahid and Dr. Zaffar praised each other’s performance and research publications and enjoyed dinner together.
Later, Dr. Moeen went to University Club and he is living there since his arrival.
Correction: Earlier, I had reported that Vice Chancellor Dr. Zaffar Mueen went to VC House for meeting with Dr. Mujahid Kamran and enjoyed dinner there with ‘his family’, however, University Administration has clarified that when the Vice chancellor went to VC House he was alone. I am thanful to the university organisation for contacting us and helped me to correct the record for my readers.
