LAHORE, May 07: Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has said that thalassemia is a hereditary disease which is a painful issue for the innocent children as the patients have to constantly get their blood change with regular intervals. The innocent children suffering from this disease deserve special attention, he added.
In his message issued here today on the eve of International Thalassemia Day, the Chief Minister said that purpose of observing this day is to raise public awareness about safety and prevention from this disease in the society. He emphasized that coordinated efforts are needed to combat this fatal disease adding that Punjab government has ensured best healthcare facilities to the thalassemia patients and a comprehensive policy has been devised for overcoming this disease. He said that this policy is being effectively implemented to counter this disease and due to the effective steps taken by the Punjab government, the number of thalassemia patients is being decreased. He said that thalassemia is a fatal disease and all-out efforts are being made by the government to overcome it. He said that provision of best healthcare facilities is the first priority of the government. Consistent efforts are required to remain safe from the thalassemia and today we should reiterate our commitment to continue our efforts till Pakistan is totally free from this disease, concluded the Chief Minister.
PARLIAMENTARIANS FROM SOUTHERN PUNJAB CALL ON CM: Federal and provincial ministers, members of national and provincial assemblies as well as local bodies’ representatives called on Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, here today and discussed in detail the ongoing development programs in southern Punjab. On the occasion, they paid rich tributes to the dynamic leadership of Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif for taking unprecedented steps for development and prosperity of the southern region. They said that public welfare and prosperity of the southern Punjab has always been given priority by Shehbaz Sharif and such a development had never been made in the 70 years history of the country. Your tenure is a golden period for southern Punjab and you have given the rights to the people of southern Punjab by burning the midnight oil. That is why southern Punjab has reached nearer to the central Punjab with regard to pace of development. You have spread a network of educational institutions including hospitals, roads and bridges, they said and lamented that claimants of southern Punjab province have always ignored this area. Assembly members said that people of southern Punjab tremendously love Shehbaz Sharif and PML-N will again succeed from the southern Punjab in the coming general elections.
On the occasion, Shehbaz Sharif said that people of southern Punjab are very dear to him and he has always given special focus to the development of southern Punjab. The pace of development in the whole of southern Punjab has been speedily moved forward and the PML-N government has provided resources to this area on priority basis. As a result, southern Punjab is presenting a picture of a developed area, he said. Provision of their rights to the people of southern Punjab is my responsibility and I shall fulfill this obligation from every respect. The past rulers badly ignored southern Punjab and those who have raised the slogan of southern Punjab province should first peep into their own conscience, concluded the Chief Minister.
PUNJAB CABINET MEETING CONDEMNS FIRING AT AHSAN IQBAL: A meeting of provincial cabinet was held under the chair of Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, here today. The meeting strongly condemned firing incident targeting Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal and prayed for his early recovery. The Chief Minister directed to constitute a Joint Investigation Team (JIT) under Additional IG Counter Terrorism Department and said that this committee will hold complete investigation of the incident. Punjab cabinet accorded approval to restore the employment quota for three divisions of southern Punjab. Under it, the quota of Bahawalpur, Multan and Dera Ghazi Khan Divisions along with the districts of Bhakkar and Mianwali will be 20 percent in public sector jobs. The meeting also approved to change the name of Punjab Coal Mining Company to Punjab Mineral Company.
Addressing the meeting, the Chief Minister said that public welfare and development of southern Punjab is very dear to him and added that PML-N government has taken unprecedented steps for the development of the region. Provision of 36 percent resources for 31 percent population is part of this commitment. He said that people of the region are fully benefiting from the mega projects completed with a cost of billions of rupees and this will continue in future as well.
Provincial ministers, advisers, special assistants, chief secretary and inspector general police attended the meeting.
