Political parties essential for working of parliament: Hashmi

LAHORE, Jan 28 (APP): The speakers of a seminar on “negative effects of the student unions’ revival” said that revival of student unions as per rules was good as the same helped develop leadership qualities among the students. They said no political leader was emerging from students as student unions were banned.

However, the student unions leaders should realise their mistakes as it was necessary for the revival
of unions, they added.

The seminar was organized by Pakistan Institute of National Affairs (PINA)at Jinnah Library here on Saturday.

Veteran politician Makhdoom Javed Hashmi said political parties were essential for the working of parliament. Hashmi said like past elected government, the present democratic set-up must also be allowed to complete its five-year constitutional term as it would strengthen the democratic process in the country. He condemned the scuffling incident in the parliament, saying the responsible should be held accountable.

To a question, Hashmi said he would make decision regarding joining any political party after some time.

PINA Secretary General Altaf Hassan Qureshi, Pakistan Institute of Legislative Development and Transparency (PILDAT) Director Ahmad Bilal Mehboob, Mujeebur Rehman Shami, Ghulam Abbas Hafeezullah Niazi, Dr Imrana Mushtaq and others spoke the seminar.
